We are often asked what it’s like living in Israel. Tourists get a glimpse of the country we love, but not of day to day life, really. For a boy raised around the wheat and corn fields of the southern Midwest, raised in a town of 85 people, and having lived in the Mid-Eastern coast of the US it is vastly different.
A few years ago a young man we met at a freelance journalist meeting started a web site called Janglo. Offering English speakers in Jerusalem a place to go to get questions answered, learn the ins and outs of life in the Holy City, sell stuff or buy it and lots more. We found our favorite coffee – Krakatoa – at the Coffee Mill on Emek Refaim St. in the German Colony by posting a question on Janglo.
And today Janglo is a flourishing place not only for Jerusalem but much of Israel. They sent out a heads-up on a look at one of the oldest neighborhoods in Tel Aviv this morning. It is pure Israeli culture, and we thought you might enjoy a look at the places and people in this one small slice of Israel. Rest assured it is not where you live. <grin>

There are untold numbers of these places. You can stroll, browse, dine and just plain relax in them. You can meet new friends, study the history or learn more about the modern city.
During the coming months we will bring you more of the people and places of Israel as we visit them, discover videos like this one, or meet folks that we believe you will enjoy.
Shalom,
Ernie
